The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant arrests in drug trafficking cases, including the apprehension of a community leader and a corps member involved in illegal drug activities.
In Osun State, the NDLEA arrested Ige Babatunde, the head of Akarabata community in Ile-Ife, for alleged possession of cannabis plants. The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, confirmed that Babatunde was found in possession of fresh cannabis plants weighing five kilograms. The arrest took place on Friday, July 5th, and the seized drugs have been handed over to the authorities.
In another operation, NDLEA operatives arrested Yusuf Abdulrahman, a corps member, for possessing a consignment of the drug known as “Loud.” Abdulrahman was apprehended at the Corpers Lodge in the Sumaila area of Kano State. The consignment weighed 1.250kg, and the corps member now faces legal consequences for his involvement in drug trafficking.
The NDLEA also conducted a raid on a high-profile cocaine syndicate in Lagos. The syndicate, led by a couple named Agbakoba John Mmadu and Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe, was involved in the packaging, distribution, and trafficking of cocaine within and outside Nigeria. During the operation, large consignments of the class A drug were recovered for both local distribution and export. The raid, carried out by a special operations unit of the agency, resulted in the arrest of Mmadu, Ijeoma, and their associate, Okoye Ifeoma Maryjane. A total of 10.1 kilograms of cocaine, valued at over N2.1bn, was seized from the syndicate.
The NDLEA’s efforts to combat drug trafficking extended to Benue State, where operatives intercepted a consignment of 350 grams of cocaine at a checkpoint along Enugu Road, Otukpo. The illicit drug was cleverly concealed in an MP3 speaker, and the owner, Odeh Anthony, was arrested at the Flight Motor Park in Otukpo.
Meanwhile, in Abuja, NDLEA operatives arrested Sanusi Mamman and Usaini Ibrahim in a vehicle along Abaji-Gwagwalada. The two suspects were found in possession of a significant amount of opioids, including codeine syrup, tramadol, diazepam, and rophynol. They claimed to have obtained the drugs from Onitsha, Anambra State.
These recent arrests and seizures demonstrate the commitment of the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and protect the Nigerian society from the harmful effects of illicit drugs. The agency’s operations have resulted in the recovery of substantial quantities of drugs and the apprehension of individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
