The agitators of the Yoruba Nation on Saturday, trooped to Akure the Ondo State capital, for a rally led by the Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho.
The agitators staged a peaceful protest across the town chanting solidarity songs in agitation for the Yoruba Nation.
Many people trooped out in masses to participate in the peaceful protest. Youths, men, women, youths, motorists, traders, artisans, and others, all put on customized t-shirts with the inscription “Omo Oduduwa ni mi.”
Security personnel, the policemen, soldiers, and Amotekun were all present at the protest ground to forestall any form of violence
While speaking at the palace of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, Sunday Igboho said that the campaign for the Yoruba Nation will continue until their request is granted.
Igboho said the Yoruba Nation agitators have the backing of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu(SAN) to campaign in Akure.
“The governor is aware of these things we are doing, we have his support. We are no more under the Fulani. All we want is the Yoruba Nation,” Igboho declared.
Sunday Igboho also stressed the need for traditional rulers to be involved in running the government at both local and state levels.
“Traditional rulers are supposed to be the father of all but they have been relegated and I believe all these anomalies would end when the Yoruba Nation comes to being”, he said.
The Edemo of Akure, High Chief Afolabi Fayehun, however, pleaded with the agitators to maintain peace in the state.
