An attack on a First Bank Plc branch and a police divisional headquarters in the Abaji Area Council was stopped on Friday by members of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command and their military counterparts.
The equipped looters were said to have gone after both the bank and police divisional central command at the same time on Friday.
It was said that the 15 armed robbers used dynamites to attack their targets.
However, three of the armed robbers were killed when the mobilized security forces engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle.
Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT command, added in a statement on Friday that three of the robbers were arrested while some of them fled the scene with injuries.
She identified Usman (whose name is still unknown), Nuhu Musa, and Muhammed Aminu as the arrested individuals.
Adeh added that a yet-to-be-recognized suspect was set on fire by a crowd at the scene in the wake of being killed by the security powers
The assertion read, “In quick reaction to an equipped burglary occurrence at First Bank Plc in Abaji on June 13, 2024, at around 5pm, the FCT police, drove by the magistrate of police, CP Benneth Igweh, himself, in a consolidated activity with the military, prepared to scene and repulsed the assault all the while completed on both Abaji Divisional Police central command and First Bank Plc in Abaji by a gathering of 15 outfitted men who went after with dynamites in endeavor to ransack the bank.
“The security forces successfully apprehended three suspects, namely Usman (unknown surname), who was reported to be the gang leader, Nuhu Musa, 41 “m” of Kogi State; the armed robbers were forced to scamper to safety with varying degrees of bullet wounds as the security forces engaged the armed robbers in an intense gun duel. and Muhammed Aminu, 25 meters from Abaji, who suffered severe bullet wounds, while an angry mob set a still-unidentified suspect on fire at the scene after the security forces eliminated him.
She noticed that a cop who was hit by a projectile during the activity was affirmed dead at the medical clinic where he was hurried to.
According to Adeh, “One police officer and the gang leader who was hit by a bullet during the gun duel were rushed to the hospital, and the doctor on duty confirmed that they were dead, while others are still receiving treatment.”
