In a tragic incident at KAM Steel Integrated Company in Ogun State, a 27-year-old employee named Yahaya Ibrahim lost his life after slipping on an engine roller at the company’s factory along the Sagamu-Ogijo Expressway.
The incident took place on Sunday at 4:50 am while Ibrahim was on duty at the plant. According to reports, he was operating the engine roller when he suddenly slipped and fell onto the machine in the early hours of Sunday morning. Despite the efforts of his colleagues to rescue him, the roller crushed him to death.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased’s body has been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue. Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the command, described it as an industrial accident.
Efforts to reach the company for a response to the incident were unsuccessful, as the contact number listed on their website went unanswered. The circumstances surrounding the accident and any potential safety measures at the company remain unknown.
Unfortunately, this is not the first occupational hazard incident in recent times. Just recently, a 25-year-old construction worker fell from a storey building while removing lintel wood on a construction site in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
It is crucial to prioritize workplace safety and take necessary precautions to prevent such accidents from occurring. Employers should ensure that proper training, safety protocols, and equipment are provided to protect the lives and well-being of their workers.
