The National Population Commission has declared that there will be no public holiday during the forthcoming census programme, scheduled to hold across the country from May 3 to May 7, 2023.
The commission noted that everyone resident in Nigerian, including foreigners, would be counted. It thus charged people to make themselves available.
The counting exercise will be the first of it’s kind in over a decade since the 2006 census. The commission had promised that the exercise would be done digitally.
In view of this the NPC Director in Plateau State, Pam Dame, has assured Nigerians that the exercise will be credible and reliable.
Speaking during a visit to the Plateau Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Jos on Friday, Dame explained the importance of the exercise to planning and national development.
He added that the commission would deploy technology to ensure that the exercise is conducted without hitches.
He said,
“The forthcoming census will be a bit unique because we have made arrangements for improvement over the previous ones. We will deploy technology so as to curtail chances of manipulation and make it credible, reliable and acceptable to Nigerians.
“It will be very difficult for anyone to manipulate this census because we will deploy what is needed to make it credible and acceptable.”
