,Edo State Youth Parliament has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Godwin Obaseki for appointing a youthful Deputy Governor and for his credible capacity in transforming the Civil Service and other sectors of the state in the past few years.
The vote of confidence which was passed following the motion on matters of public importance moved during the valedictory session of the Youth parliament in the House of Assembly Complex in Benin City recalled the gains of the governor which has impacted and transformed the lives of the people and especially his youth inclusiveness policy.
In a Unanimous decision, the members passed the vote of confidence on the governor for the quality health care across the state, Youth empowerment, transformation of the state Civil Service which includes the 13th month salary initiated last year for civil servants.
The Speaker, Edo Youth Parliament, Rt.Hon Osawe Uwagboe said that the governor has done exceedingly well and it is visible to everyone, adding that the parliament has high regards for the governor because he has never taken youths for granted.
The Speaker further noted that, ” the appointment of the Deputy governor has set the stepping stone for youths who are admiring and desiring to become a vocal voice in government, because prior to this time there have been men of the older generation calling the shots for youths that have the largest population in the state and the federation.
The Parliamentarians observed that the governor has transformed the economy of the state, looking at the House of Assembly complex that has been well renovated, the renovation of the secretariat complex and the educational reforms, which are some of the reasons why they are passing the vote of confidence.
They also commended the governor for the vision of the Youth Parliament which has exposed them to understand the proceedings of the parliament and to make inroads to the corridors of power
The Members in their various submissions appreciated the governor for locating the third campus of the College of Education and turning Owan East constituency to the food basket of Edo state.
While thanking the governor for the appointment of the Deputy governor, they said this goes to tell that the governor is a youth oriented person and they also observed that when, ” you go round the state you will find Primary Health Centers have been renovated and new ones are been constructed, just as there is a new life with the Health Insurance scheme which has given access to good health care delivery.
“The Youths now gain employment on merit, the Civil Service now branded with monthly training of civil servants where they update their skills and there is accountable in governance with the annual Alaghodaro summit which we urge the incoming government to sustain,” The parliamentarians added.
Members of the first session of the Edo State Youth Parliament which was inaugurated on May 11, 2021 shared their experiences under a motion of personal explanation and adjourned sine-die. The second session is expected to be sworn in on a later date.
Among dignitaries who witnessed the Valedictory session was the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon Zubairu Abubakar, the Special Adviser on Youth Affairs to the governor, Hon Schedrack Ohiorenua Udugbai, the National Youth Parliament Speaker, Hon Azeezat Yishawu and others from across the country.
