Edo State renowned High Priestess Ohèn’Awan of Benin Kingdom, née Stella Onaghisè Ebohon was reported dead by her family members , Children and some Benin Palace Chiefs at the early hours on 20.8.2022. The shocking news was firstly announced by one of her biological sons “Mr Banks Eno Osagie”.
Recall, Mrs Stella Onaghisè Ebohon was Spiritually ordained by Oritse ancestors, in the early 80’s, as the High Priestess Ohèn’Awan of Benin Kingdom, to serve at Oba Palace Shrine arms at Evbohuan Community , located at “Uhuonde Local Government area in Benin City – Edo State, then known as Bendel State. The Awan shrine was an equivalent to a High Court of Justice to Unhuonde indigenes, were spiritual and physical related cases will be settled.
According to members of the Awan Shrine, it was unveiled to newsagents that , the Ohèn’Awan of Benin Kingdom, was obliged never to wear Shirts and Shoes by her deity on earth before she passed away, which she actually abided to until she passed away on the 20.8.2022.
Recently, Edo State has lost high profiled indigenes such as the likes of Edo Funk music pioneers, blessed memory of legendary Sir Victor Uwaifo and blessed memory of legendary Amb Osayomore Joseph, who was reported to be a close relative of High Priestess Ohèn’Awan of Benin Kingdom.
Priestess Ohèn Awan of Benin Kingdom, nèè Mrs Stella Onaghise Osagie Ebohon, passed away at her Golden age , living behind a positive legacy, she was a prolific traditional singer, a sucessful Fashion designer and a Trado medical Doctor, Mrs Stella Osagie Ebohon was also the CEO of both Nigeria’s own giant record label, Enorecords LLC and Stella Best Knitters Company LTD. She was popularly known for previously designing cardigans for Edo State school students. In the late 70’s – early 90’s, she designed and distributed cardigans to institutions such as Edo College, Adolo College, Idia College, Egba Grammar School, Benin Technical School, Edo State Guinness Plc, Immaculate Conception College and many more.
She was survived by 10 Children, many grand and great grandChildren. She was also praised by Blessed Memory of Amb Osayomore Joseph in one of his popular songs “Iye n’awan vbèn Niyevbèn” while she received Awards from former Edo State Commissioner for Trade and Industry, Mr Lucky Umoru. Burial arrangements are yet to be unveiled by her Children and some Edo State palace Chiefs.
