An Ogun State-based woman, Temitope Adetanju, has been taken into custody by operatives of the state police command for assaulting a 12-year-old girl over allegations of stealing biscuits and other edibles. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Isewo Obada Oko area of Ewekoro Local Government Area.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the suspect, who was a guardian to the victim, had allegedly beaten the minor and inserted a piece of firewood in her private part. The Divisional Police Officer in the area received information about the incident and immediately deployed the division’s juvenile officer to the scene.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the victim had stolen items including biscuits worth N200, Milo worth N150, and Mr. Fruit worth N300. The suspect, Temitope Adetanju, confessed to committing the crime and is currently undergoing further investigation.
This incident comes after the recent arrest of a 32-year-old woman, Funmi Faith, in Lagos State, who was captured maltreating a female child in a viral video. The video prompted calls for intervention from the Lagos State Government. In another incident, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, Solomon Daniel, was arrested by the Ifo Division of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl.
It is important to address such cases of child abuse and ensure that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law. The protection and welfare of children should be a top priority for society.
