The governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a 20% pay raise for the state’s sanitation employees.

On Wednesday in Lagos, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, shared this information with the street cleaners.

At a recent rally held by the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) in support of the presidential campaign of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Odumboni said that the governor had pledged to boost the wage of sanitation employees.

He assured the staff that modern protective gear, including overalls, boots, and other PPE, would be sent to them so that they could carry out their responsibilities safely and efficiently.

Odumboni assured the sweepers that the government would provide the resources they needed to do their jobs effectively.

He asked the people working in sanitation to exercise their right to vote in the next elections.

He urged them to get out the vote and spread the message in their communities.

Odumboni continued by saying that their votes were crucial to the government hearing their concerns.

He praised Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that it was during his time as governor of Lagos State that Tinubu instituted the Private Sector Participants (PSP) operations and street sweeping initiatives.

Tinubu, according to Odumboni, “established the framework for proper garbage management” from which the state now benefits.

The workers thanked the governor for his leadership and committed to working even harder to clean the state.
