Villagers demonstrate after a Rivers vigilante kills a man on June 21, 2023.

Justice Ogbuehi’s friends and family are in mourning after it was reported that a member of the Emuoha Local Government Vigilante Service shot him to death at his father’s house in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

They learned that Ogbuehi was at his father’s house helping his mother process cassava when the vigilante group stormed the property and shot him dead.

In the wake of executing the wrongdoing, the nearby security men ran away from the area yet Ogbechi’s mom, who was stunned by the turn of events, raised the caution.

After learning of the tragic development, members of the community, including Augustine, the victim’s older brother, staged a protest to voice their displeasure and called for the dissolution of the vigilance group that was reportedly established by Dr. Chidi Lloyd, the Chairman of the LGA.

As he led protesters to the Cool/Wazobia/Info FM media house, Augustine lamented the loss of his brother and claimed that Ogbechi had recently graduated from the Nigeria Navy training school.

Augustine told reporters that one of the members of the vigilance group that stormed the property allegedly shot Ogbechi while he was processing cassava at home.

“Members of the EMOLVIS of Emohua Local Government Area just drove into our community in Oduoha,” the offended brother stated. I have no idea who they were looking for. However, what we just saw was our brother helping his mother fry Garri when he was shot without being questioned.

He added that any vigilance member found guilty at the conclusion of the investigation would face the law, and that vigilance members had no right to carry weapons.

Lloyd stated, “Of course, the full weight of the law will be brought to bear if it is discovered that someone who is not authorized to bear arms is the cause of the death.”Villagers demonstrate after a Rivers vigilante kills a man on June 21, 2023.On June 21, 2023, a man in Bauchi sets a woman on fire over alleged witchcraft.
