A PROMINENT Nigerian community leader in the UK Otunda Dr. Dapo Williams renowned for supporting good causes and contributing generously to society activities has passed on at the age of 60.
Well-liked and particularly appreciated for his generosity, Otunba Williams passed on after suffering a heart attack. His remains have since been deposited at a hospital morgue near Welling in Kent where he lives.
An architect by profession, Otunga Dr. Dapo Williams held numerous positions within the Nigerian community in the UK, including being a leader of the local All Progressives Congress (APC), the leader of the Nigerian Think Tank Group, and was a member of the Nigerian Community Leadership Forum.
Otunga Dr. Dapo Williams was a qualified architect, a chartered surveyor, and a real estate strategist with over 35 years’ experience in procurement, property maintenance and building construction. He was also a petroleum products downstream retailer in the oil and gas sector.
Dayo Olomu, a leading Nigerian community leader in the United Kingdom and founder of the Dayo Olomu Foundation, said: “I received the sad news of the passing of Otunba Dr. Dapo Williams, a prominent leader in the Nigerian diaspora community in the UK, yesterday, August 8, 2020, with deep pain and grief that words cannot capture. On behalf of my family, I convey our deepest condolences.
“He was a high achiever who has demonstrated his capabilities throughout his career. He developed property and facilities management solutions in response to commercial accommodation needs and his death is indeed a huge personal loss to me.
“Apart from being a close friend, confidant, brother, and leader, he was also big support and donor of my Dayo Olomu Foundation. He was not just a loving personality, a generous giver, and someone who lived for others, he was also a role model and mentor to many black youths in the African/Caribbean community in the UK.
” Otunga Dr. Dapo Williams was a great man who lived for the people and served his community and with his death, the Nigerian diaspora community in the UK have lost an illustrious son, a true diaspora champion, a pillar of support and a strong community leader. This painful exit is much more than the end of an individual but the departure of a legend and an icon.”
Among other things, Otunga Dr. Dapo Williams enjoyed Formula One car racing, loved golf and was a passionate Arsenal fan. Although Otunga Dr. Dapo Williams was born into a Muslim family, Nigerian Christians in the UK are planning a memorial service for him too as his philanthropy and generosity cut across religious lines.
