Tiwa Savage, a huge name in Nigerian music, has expanded her career horizons by starring in and co-directing a film.
On Wednesday, the 43-year-old performer revealed that her first film, titled Water and Garri, would be her first.
She captioned an Instagram image of herself on site with the filmmakers, “This is going to be ICONIC. This is my first gig as a director, and I’m honoured to be working with the legendary @meji Alabi.
Garri (a cereal) with water021 EP of the same name inspired the film Water and Garri.
Screen Daily claims that Tiwa’s 2Tiwa portrays a successful American fashion designer who goes back to her African hometown of Cape Coast to face the demons she has been running from.
Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde are also a part of the cast.
Water and Garri, the first feature film from African production business Unbound Studios and its subsidiary JM Productions, has completed the main filming.
The film, which was written by Comfort Emmanuel and directed by Meji Alabi and Tiwa, was co-directed by the two.

In addition to serving as an executive producer via her business, Everything Savage, Tiwa composed and performed the film’s original.
