The Benin monarch, his Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba Ewuare the second has urged the German government to return the Benin throne stools and other artifacts which are currently in its possession
Oba Ewaure stated that the two ancient Benin throne stools were looted from various places of worship across the Benin kingdom by invading colonial masters and ferried to Germany.
The royal father made the call when the director of the Ethnological Museum in Berlin, Germany professor Lars Christian Koch led some research delicate to his palace in Benin City.
Omo N’Oba Ewuare Ogidigan, who described Benin artworks as “crown jewels”, explained that they served both spiritual and economic significants to the Benin kingdom
According to the Oba, if returned to the original owners from a foreign land, the artifacts could still be displayed at different art exhibitions across the world
Earlier, the visitors led by a professor had told the monarch that they were on a research mission to Benin about the Benin bronze casting our correspondent Charity Ozigbo-Esere reports that the Oba also thanked President Buhari for his effort at ensuring the return of all looted Nigeria artworks abroad.
