Edo State Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues reunited a two years old girl physically abused by her guardian recently with her parents who were given the last chance to be responsible parents.

It would be recalled that Mr. and Mrs. Monday Bernard gave their children, Divine (4) and Glory (2) to a relation who beat up Glory and put Aboniki ointment in her eyes before she was rushed to the Edo Specialist Hospital where the Ministry officials intervened.

The Children were taken over by the Ministry on the 11th and 13th of January following report of physical abuse, maltreatment and parental neglect by a non governmental organization in Benin City and since then they were under the Ministry’s care and supervision.

Before  handing over the children to the parents on the 17th of January, the father promised to take proper care of the children as well as provide them quality education and failure to do so the government should hold them responsible and avail them the necessary penalty.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Gender Issues, Dr. Peter Osagie said the children were handed over to their biological parents because it is now obvious that the parents have learnt their lessons after pleading for leniency and signed the undertaking to be responsible parents.
