The minority party in Oyo State, Social Democratic Party (SDP), have accepted the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Honourable Teslim Folarin, as their preferred choice in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
SDP revealed this on Thursday 9th March, after holding an emergency State Congress meeting in Ibadan, the state capital.
The meeting which was presided over by the state chairman of the party, Michael Okunlade, was attended by leaders of the party from across the 33 local government areas in the state.
During the meeting, members reviewed performances of the party in the last concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections and thus agreed to form a coalition with APC in the Governorship election.
The party leaders, also agreed not to vote for the incumbent Governor of the state who is also the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Seyi Makinde, for his failure to fulfil the previous agreement he had with the coalition parties that brought him to power in 2019.
Okunade said,
“Majority of us have decided to join the APC, owing to the injustice meted to us in the PDP and since we started.”
“We believe that to right these wrongs, there is need for us to form a virile coalition with a party that can dislodge this administration that has shown itself to be lacking in development”.
“Our decision is not based on anything than the development of our dear state. He has the record. He is not someone who would promise what he wouldn’t do.
“He is as straight as that. All these said, I like to enjoin all of us to go out en masse and vote for the SDP House of Assembly candidates”.
