The provisional opening of the second Niger Bridge has brought a sigh of relief to travelers and automobiles heading in the direction of the South East.

Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari officially opened the bridge so that it can be used over the holiday season. He advised those who utilize the bridge to drive in a safe and responsible manner.

Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), said the purpose of the bridge was to save lives and alleviate poverty caused by the waste of man-hours resulting from gridlock on the old first-second bridge. While noting that part of the money used in the construction of the bridge was from looted funds recovered mostly from the United States of America, Buhari stated that a portion of the money used in the construction of the bridge was from looted funds recovered.
