In the early hours of December 24, 2023, Chijioke Obinabo, a truck driver, fell victim to a harrowing incident in Etiti Village, Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Masked gunmen, numbering more than five, forcibly entered his family’s residence, armed with guns and machetes. Despite the presence of his centenarian father and younger sister, the assailants abducted Chijioke, leaving his family and the community in a state of panic.

Village Head Ozo Mmiliana recounted the distressing event, sharing that the victim’s father informed him after efforts had been made to locate Chijioke. The elderly father, around 105 years old, expressed helplessness as the masked abductors covered their faces, rendering identification impossible. The family, along with concerned residents, has been tirelessly searching for Chijioke, having reported the incident to local police stations. Unfortunately, as of the report, there has been no positive feedback on his whereabouts.

The severity of the situation is underscored by the targeted nature of the abduction, with Chijioke being the sole victim in the house that night. The community remains anxious about his safety, questioning the motives behind this unfortunate incident.

Efforts to obtain confirmation from the Anambra Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, were unfruitful as he did not respond to messages or calls.

This distressing event adds to the string of security challenges faced by communities, raising concerns about the safety of individuals in the region. The gravity of the situation necessitates swift and effective response measures to ensure the well-being of the abducted truck driver.
