Jegede Folorunsho, 54, is facing legal proceedings for an alleged crime in Lagos.
He stands accused of defiling an eight-year-old girl in Mushin, prompting the police to bring him before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi on Monday in the Ebute Metta area. The police sought remand, requesting permission to send the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
According to Police Prosecutor Paul Ugorji, Folorunsho is accused of raping the victim on October 4, 2023, at No 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin. Following the victim’s complaint, he was arrested by Mushin Police Division, and the case was discreetly investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.
Ugorji highlighted that the alleged offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015. The police presented a confessional statement in court, and the accompanying 12-paragraph remand application detailed the charges against Folorunsho.
The defendant’s plea was not taken after the remand application. The magistrate granted the police’s request, remanding Folorunsho to Ikoyi Correctional Centre. She also ordered the case file to be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and set the next hearing for December 15, 2023.
