Lagos FA presents Ekofootball Queens Championship

The Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, on Thursday afternoon at the Secretariat of the FA on Ogunlana Drive, Surulere Lagos, presented the First edition of the Ekofootball Queens  Championship, Obaland Magazine learnt.
The event which has been scheduled to kick off at the Agege Stadium and the Legacy Pitch, inside the National Stadium, Lagos, kicks off recently.
Akinwunmi, who is also the first vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation, told Obaland Magazine at that herald the historic gender competition, that a total of 24 clubs will participate in the competition that will run for two weeks.
He added that the teams will be in four groups of six teams each for the competition that would first be played on a league basis before going into the knock-out series until the final game.
He explained that the competition for only amateur clubs is aimed at further development of women’s football in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole. And also for the protection of the girl child.
The Lagos FA Vice Chairman, Otunba Tade Azeez, who was also present at the event, stated that the revolution experienced at the Nigeria Women Football League Super  Six at the Dipo Dina International Stadium Ijebu-Ode encouraged the Lagos FA to do more for women’s football development in Nigeria. And stressed that, majority of the players that showcased their talents at the Super Six, were players who had their early development in the game in Lagos.

Tade Azeez, who is also the president of the Nigeria Referee Association, said, the Lagos FA is optimistic that at the end of the competition, women’s football in Lagos and Nigeria will be better for it.
