Italy’s highways are becoming more and more costly

Due mostly to the energy crisis and inflation, drivers on Italy’s roads face ever-increasing costs. Tolls have been the same for the previous four years, but as of July 2022, Autostrade per l’Italia S.p.a. reports a 1.5% rise. It’s impossible to ignore the spike in energy and raw material prices that marked the second half of 2022. Based on data collected by the Enegia-Luce.

Route A5 Turin–Monte Bianco
The route from Turin to the Monte Bianco tunnel in the Aosta Valley is the most costly highway in all of Italy. The most costly toll in our country, this section costs drivers 3.45 euros every 10 kilometres.

Traffic circles in Milan
The second most expensive route is the A58-51 and 52 surrounding Milan, at about €2.54 per km. They are the longest (almost 100 km) ring roads in Italy, and together with the A50 (Milan’s West Ring Road), they form the most comprehensive system in the country.
