Gunmen, believed to be hoodlums, have launched an attack on a Nigeria Customs Service patrol base in Koko, Kebbi State. During the attack, one officer was killed, and another was abducted. The incident took place on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM. The spokesperson for the Kebbi Area Command, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, released a press statement on Sunday evening, providing details of the attack.
According to the statement, the group of hoodlums targeted the patrol base, causing destruction of properties and specifically targeting the customs officers. The attack is believed to be in response to the recent efforts to combat smuggling activities in the area. Following the destruction, the armed men pursued and attacked two officers. Tragically, Assistant Superintendent Customs I, Dabo Umar, lost his life during the assault. Superintendent of Customs, Babagana Abba Kabiru, was abducted, and the captors have demanded a hefty ransom for his release.
The body of the deceased officer has been retrieved and transported to Kaduna for burial, in accordance with Islamic rites. The Customs Area Controller, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the safe return of the abducted officer. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the release of the abducted officer.
The statement also urged the public to provide any information that may assist in the safe return of the abducted officer.
