Gunmen Abduct Rivers State Ex-Governor Candidate and Kill Two Loyalists

 

In the early hours of Monday morning, gunmen dressed in military uniform abducted Sobomabo Jackrich, the governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement in the 2024general elections in Rivers State.

The incident took place at his residence in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area of the state. During the raid, two of Jackrich’s loyalists were shot dead by the assailants.

The circumstances surrounding the abduction and killing are still unclear. However, witnesses reported seeing several military-branded vehicles during the raid. Soibibo Sokari, Jackrich’s media aide, confirmed the incident and stated that they are still gathering more details about the incident. The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, clarified that it was not a case of kidnapping but an issue between Jackrich, a former Niger Delta agitator, and another security agency. She did not provide further details.

An anonymous source claimed that the military was responsible for the abduction and that Jackrich’s residence was cordoned off. However, the acting Deputy Director of the 6 Division, Army Public Relations, Lt Col. Jonah Danjuma, stated that he was not aware of the situation.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The Rivers State Police Command urges the public to remain calm and assures them that efforts are being made to resolve the issue. The safety and security of residents remain a top priority, and the authorities are committed to maintaining peace and order in the state.
