The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Oyo State, Mr Michael Lana, has slammed the state chairman of the party, Mr Michael Okunlade, over his allegations that the party had suspended him for anti-party activities.
Recall that the state chairman, Michael Okunlade, on Friday 31st March, wrote a letter on behalf of the state executives of the party to the national headquarters in Abuja, suspending both Lana and the state secretary, Mr Idowu Owokoya.
The Social Democratic Party has been divided into two a few days before the Oyo State’s March 18 governorship election which return Engineer Oluwaseyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as Governor for the second time.
The division is as a result of controversy over whom the party adopted as its candidate between Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Teslim Folarin of All Progressives Congress (APC) during the Governorship election.
Speaking in an interview with The Punch correspondents in Ibadan, Lana, said he had already reacted to the report of his rumored suspension on social media.
According to him Okunlade does not support the party’s alliance with the All Progressives Congress and is thus suffering from what he described as an inglorious defeat.
He added that the national secretariat of the party has condemned Okunlade’s action of peddling false news about him. He noted that he doesn’t have much to say about the whole issue.
He said,
“He (Okunlade) is suffering from the inglorious defeat of their alliance with the All Progressives Congress. That’s why!
“The National secretariat has condemned it actually. There is nothing to talk about. There is nothing much to talk about.”
Also the state secretary of the party, Idowu Owokoya, when asked about the matter, said he was not in a position to speak on the matter.
