The Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of five individuals suspected of kidnapping in the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas of the state. The police also successfully rescued a victim during an operation in August.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, identified the suspects as Umaru Usman, Tukur Yau, Musbau Sabo, Abdul Ibrahim, and Jubrin Idris.
Adejobi said, “The Nigeria Police Force in Imo State has made significant progress in combating crime, particularly kidnapping. Among recent successes is the arrest of five suspects linked to kidnappings in the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas, as well as the rescue of a victim.”
The suspects, all hailing from Sokoto and Kano states, were apprehended on August 21, 2024, in Avu, Imo State. Additionally, the police arrested a 25-year-old man, Nwauba Alex, from Ebonyi State, for attempting to rob residents at gunpoint. He was caught near Aladinma Primary School, Owerri, with a locally-made pistol, live ammunition, and torches.
The police continue their efforts to ensure the safety and security of the state.
