The presidential election was conducted on Saturday, 25th January 2023 with 18 candidates contesting for the seat of the president. The seat seems to be among the four leading contenders inclusive of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwakwanso.
The results are being released gradually by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The results released by the commission for Lagos State, reveals that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has floored Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Obi won with a total of 575,524 votes while Tinubu pulled 573,001 votes. He won by a landslide by garnering 2,523 more votes than Tinubu.
His win is surprising as he won in only 9 of the local government areas that comprises the state. However he won with a big margin at Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu, Ojo and Alimosho local government areas.
While Tinubu won in 11 local government areas including Agege, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu, Mushin, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere.
In Ekiti State, Tinubu won with a total of 201,494 votes, while the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar came second polling 89,554 votes and Peter Obi polled 11,397 votes.
