The Edo House Of Assembly has confirmed Mr Bamidele Obaitan as a commissioner designate in the state. It would be recalled that the nominee was among the nine commissioner nominees sent to the house for confirmation by governor Godwin Obaseki in February. Eight commissioners out of the nine were confirmed while Bamidele Obaitan could not be screened due to unexpected emergency on his part. Confirming the commissioner nominee at the committee of the whole, the chairman of the screening committee, Hon.Henry Okhuarobo said the nominee was qualified and suitable for the job Hon.Okhuarobo said that the commissioner nominee has several years of experience adding that, the nominee was relatively young for the position. The committee recommended that the nominee having been found to be eligible, be confirmed as commissioner-designate in the state. Thereafter, the House unanimously, in a voice vote, confirmed the nominee as a civil commissioner in Edo. The house also during plenary confirmed seven nominees as chairman and members of the Edo State Sport commission The commission has Yusuf Alli as Chairman , Frank Ilaboya, Mrs Anehita Emeya, and Osayaba Osarenren as Executive Directors, Edo North, Central and South respectively. .Others are Dr Emmanuel Igbinosa, Asuen Ighodalo and Uyi Akpata. The speaker Rt.Hon.Marcus Onobun directed that clean copies of the resolution be forwarded to Governor Godwin Obaseki for necessary action. Meanwhile, the member representing (PDP Esan North East 1), Hon.Francis Okiye has called on the state government and security agencies in the state to strengthen security around Uromi and its environs. Hon.Okiye made the call under matters of personal explanations during plenary where he informed the house of the invasion of Uromi by armed robbers who attacked five commercial banks recently. He stated that the attack on the banks has left Uromi devastated and economically crippled. He further explained that the incident left more than 20 persons dead and several others injured The speaker noted that some lapses have been identified in the incident adding that they were being looked into. Rt.Hon.Onobun, however, commended the security agencies for the role in recovering the stolen cash and vehicles adding that, their professionalism led to the reduction in casualties
