The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has adjourned the hearing of the dispute between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities over lecturers’ pending salaries to May 2nd.

The industrial court will hear the dispute between the lecturers union and FG over eight months salary arears in May. The union has expressed optimism that the “truth will prevail” over the matter.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, filed a suit against the union following the failure of the government and ASUU to reconcile during the strike which occurred in 2022.

The minister requested the court to grant an interlocutory injunction restraining ASUU from continuing the strike, pending the determination of the substantive suit filed by the federal government against ASUU, with suit number: NICN/ABJ/270/22-FGN, Min. of Edu. vs ASUU.

Even though the court earlier ordered ASUU to suspend the strike, an order which the union complied with, the case for the hearing on the matter of withheld salaries was adjourned to May 2, 3, and 4.
