Burna Boy, Tems make fashionable debut at 2023 Met Gala

On Monday evening, May 1st, 2023, national and international stars were in attendance at the biggest fashion event in the world, The Met Gala.

The event was attended by many of the biggest names and forces in the celebrityclique from fashion, entertainment, movies, modeling, and more industry gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute in New York City.

The Met Gala fashion show, which was formally called the Costume Institute Gala, is an annual fundraising gala held to generate funds for the benefit of the Museum of Arts.

The Met Gala is fashion’s big night out and only the innermost players in all industries are invited.

This year’s Met Gala theme was tagged “In honor of Karl’, which was to honor the late Chanel designer, Karl Lagerfeld.

As expected many Nigerian and international celebrities showed off on the red carpet with their captivating look.

From Rihanna and her lover, ASAP Rocky to Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell, Cardi B and more; everyone brought in their A-games.

Also Nigerian Award-winning singers, Temilade Openiyi also known as Tems, and Damini Ogulu also known as Burna Boy made Nigerians proud as they made their first debut appearance.

Burna Boy was dressed in a matching black and blue slightly checkered outfit and a generous cape-like extension of the same material flowing behind him like a tail.

Tems, on the other hand, wore a Custom Rober Wun dress, a black corset-like top, a flowing regal white finishing at the bottom, and elbow-length gloves. Tems dress was styled by Dunsun Wright.

Recall that in 2022, Barbados American singer, Robyn Fenty better known as Rihanna bagged a status of her own at the Met Gala.

The R&B singer who didn’t attend the fashion event because she was expectant of her child was honored at the occasion.

The organizers honoured her legendary fashion styles with a pregnant statue of her created at the Met Museum.

In reaction Rihanna took to her Instagram page and expressed gratitude to the Met Museum team and Vogue Magazine, which is in charge of the annual Met Gala.

Rihanna shared a video of the statue stating that she shut down the Met Gala in marble and questioned what is more Gilead than the status.

Rihanna captioned the video,

“Shut down the met in marble! What’s more Gilead than that? Lol! Thank you @metmuseum and @voguemagazine for this historic tribute! Y’all bad for this one”.
