Assembly Election 2023: Speaker, Majority Leader lose seats to PDP in Plateau

Yakubu Sanda, the Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly and Majority Leader, Daniel Nanlong, both of the All Progressives Congress have lost their constituency seats to Peoples Democratic Party candidates.

Sanda represents Pengana State Constituency, lost out to Happiness Akawu of the PDP in the House of Assembly election held on Saturday.

The election result announced by the Pengana Constituency Returning Officer, Prof. Sati Chanle, revealed that Akawu polled 9,926 votes to defeat Sanda who got 7,936 votes.

The results revealed that Faisal Maitala of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) polled 6,721 votes and came third.

His words,

“Mrs Happiness Akawu, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes cast, is hereby declared winner of the election and returned elected”.

Also Nanlong, a two-term member representing Mikang State Constituency, lost his second term bid to Moses Sule of the PDP.

Sule polled 12,880 votes to defeat the current occupant who polled 9,848 votes.

Returning Officer, Takum said,

“Having fulfilled the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, Moses Sule of the PDP is hereby declared winner and is returned elected.”
