A female concertgoer who was hurt in a crush at a London venue died Saturday, police said.
Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, a Londoner, was one of eight individuals hospitalized on Thursday night after getting caught in the chaos outside the O2 Brixton Academy, where Nigerian musician Asake was scheduled to perform.
Saturday morning, according to the Metropolitan Police Department, she passed away. Two further ladies, ages 21 and 23, are still in extremely critical condition.
Asake expressed that he was “overwhelmed with grief” over Ikumelo’s passing.
To her family and friends, my deepest condolences. Please pray for her and her loved ones. I have spoken with them, and I will continue to do so,” he declared on Instagram.
After “a large crowd attempted to obtain admission without tickets,” police were summoned, and when they arrived, they found persons with crush injuries.
It requested that anyone with visual evidence of the incident send it in to aid the police.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, expressed his “heartbreak” over Ikumelo’s passing.
“Rebecca had her whole life ahead of her, and on behalf of all Londoners, I would like to send my sympathies to her family, friends, and loved ones at this terrible time,” he added.

South London is home to one of London’s most well-known concert halls, the Brixton Academy. It was constructed in the 1920s as a movie theatre and can seat 4,999 people.
