As the governorship election in Edo State draws near, the All Progressive Congress , APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have been urged to desist from using insulting language in their campaigns for the interest of Esan Agenda
The advice which was contained in a statement issued by Otunba (Dr.) Eugene Enahoro, noted that the two candidates who are sons of Esan land should take the election as a family affair and focus on what will unite and develop Edo state and Esan land in particular.
“We are happy that the two prominent candidates in the election are from Esan land. In any election there must be a winner and We should not allow people from the other senatorial zone to divide us, but let us join hands and remain united in the interest of the Esan agenda.
“In democracy, there must be winners and losers. As an elder I am worried about the way the candidates are going about their campaigns, because it is supposed to be a family affair.
“In this election, Esan land should be the winner irrespective of who emerges. They should be conscious of this fact and it is important for them to know that politics is not a do or die affair.”
While appealing for peaceful conduct of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chief Eugene Enahoro, the son of renowned Nationalist, Politician and statesman, Late Chief Anthony Enahoro advised the voters to come out to cast their votes.
“The election should be peaceful and fair and voters should remember that democracy determines what the people get, but it does not guarantee that they get what they want. When the election is over, the losers should cooperate with the winner to make the state move forward.
“Whether the election is free or not will be determined by the court and not by the personal opinion of the loser,” he added
